Old City Aikido
Carefully hidden atop the hustle and bustle of the historic downtown district, Old City Aikido has been quietly serving the Philadelphia community since 2014. Our humble dojo is a place of honored tradition, enduring martial spirit, and a willingness to evolve that has placed us at the forefront of modern Aikido practice. Here at OCA we are serious about our training and place the utmost importance on each student’s progress as a martial artist. Old City Aikido is a full-time professional martial arts school that offers day and evening classes to fit any busy schedule, as well as a physical practice space that is one of the most beautiful in the city. Our community of dedicated practitioners is welcoming and here to help you along the path. We look forward to seeing you on the mat, contact us today!
Jason Perna began practicing Aikido at the age of 17 and now brings over 30 years of practical experience to his daily training and teaching. His upbringing in traditional Iwama-Ryu, as well as many years of training in the Aikikai (Hombu Dojo) style of Aikido, gives him a well-balanced approach to his understanding of the art and teaching methodology. He also practices the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu which he utilizes to better understand the deeper connections across different arts, and to maintain a grounded, practical approach. Through his daily practice, he continues to manifest his deep commitment to both the art and his students. Perna Sensei is a full-time professional Aikido instructor; he holds the rank of 4th degree blackbelt and has been a certified instructor for more than a decade.

Our 12 year old has been taking classes at Old City Aikido for almost a year. We have seen a significant increase in her self confidence and level of commitment. She can’t wait to go to class every week, and practices frequently at home. So glad we discovered Old City Aikido!
